Kindness: Listening to Your Soul

Day 27: Kindness: Listening to Your Soul

“Re-examine all you have been told. Dismiss what insults your soul.” – Walt Whitman

Listening to our soul can be understood as listening to our gut, listening to our intuition and ultimately trusting ourselves. I believe that we always know what feels right and what feels wrong. Almost as a sixth sense. The problem is that most of ignore our intuition. Maybe we were raised in a family or religion that taught us that others knew best which over time taught us not to listen to our souls. For whatever the reason we stopped or never learned how to listen, we now have the opportunity to re-examine what we know and master the art of listening to our souls.

If we are aware and in tune with who we are, we will be able to listen to our souls and give them exactly what they are asking for. We will all go about it in different ways. For me, I can learn to trust myself and listen to my soul through meditation, prayer, awareness, journal writing and being disciplined in mastering the art of soul listening.

  1. Kindness to Self:

The Walt Whitman quote perfectly and beautifully explains what I am describing. Leave behind all of the things that do not agree with our souls and learn to listen to what they require. We are all individuals, with specific needs and if we can learn to listen to what we need without allowing any interference, we will be able to nurture ourselves in kindness.

  2. Kindness to Others:

Respecting that everyone has different likes, desires and needs is an important step in showing kindness to those that we love. My soul may need something very different than my friend or child, being able to really listen and learn to agree to disagree, if necessary, is a lovely act of kindness that everyone deserves.

  3. Kindness to Strangers:

Once we understand and have mastered the ability to listen to what our souls, guts an intuition need, our interactions with strangers will begin to change. We will know who to trust, what feels right, if we are where we are supposed to be and when we should engage with strangers.

  4. Kindness to Our Planet:

I believe that the earth is an extension of each us. If we are able to really listen to our own needs and feed our souls with what is necessary for each of us, we will then be able to do that for our planet.
