Kindness in a Cuddle

Day 134: Kindness in a Cuddle

“Cuddling literally kills depression, relieves anxiety and strengthens the immune system.” – Unknown

I have no idea if that quote is based on scientific studies and data or just made up, but I do not really care, it completely makes sense to me. Who doesn’t feel better, more loved, recharged and content after a good cuddling session? We all need the same things in life and we certainly need to feel good and loved in order to be kind and spread that kind feeling to others.

Lucky for me that my children still like to watch a movie and cuddle or read a book and cuddle, because after a very long week of work and life, that is exactly what I needed. Whether we cuddle with our children, spouse, friend, parent or beloved animal, harness that love and turn it inward so that you can feel love and turn that into kindness for yourself and all others.

Kind Rewards

Day 133: Kind Rewards

“Happiness can exist only in acceptance.” – George Orwell

Are you one of those people that can kindly accept and receive the gifts and rewards that you have worked so hard to achieve? Or are you one of those people that down play your achievements or refuse to acknowledge yourself?

I think, I may fall into the latter group. I wish I could say: hell yes! I did that! I’m awesome and bad ass! Or at least think it. Why not celebrate my hard work and the gifts that come with it? Is it because there is still part of me that believes it can be taken away? That I don’t really deserve it? That something bad is around the corner? And where did I develop these beliefs?

If my thoughts create my beliefs, then I should be very cognizant of my thoughts so that my beliefs reflect what I want and desire. And if I get to pick, then I choose enjoyment. I choose to celebrate and congratulate myself. Nothing bad is lurking around the corner and of course I deserve the rewards of hard work and dedication. I suppose it does not matter where the beliefs came from, what is more important is that I am aware and willing to change my old belief patterns.

Begin to be aware of what you think, and remember that what you think creates your beliefs, which then create your current life.

We are all worthy of the best in life! Think, Believe, Create!

Toolbox of Kindness

Day 132: Toolbox of Kindness

“Self -compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.” – Christopher Germer

When life brings you a challenge that feels daunting, insurmountable, and down right scary, what do you do? In lieu of hiding and saying to your higher power how unfair it all is, what tools do you have that help you?

Over the years I have acquired, crafted, and nurtured a collection of tools that have helped and served me well through the toughest challenges. I have used therapy, meditation and yoga, family and friends, support groups, a plethora of self-help books, and most recently added positive affirmations to the toolbox. Each new tool requires discipline, dedication and maybe a bit of humility. Admitting that we need help and asking for it also requires self-acceptance and forgiveness. Our lives are not perfect and never will be. We will have moments that are the happiest and moments that are nothing short of tragic, that is life. Having a toolbox of kindness for ourselves is not only going to get us through the toughest of times, but it will also enhance our lives during the calm waters of life.

No matter what, there is always plenty of help and assistance available, look and ask, and you will find what you need.

With Love and Kindness,

Love, Friendship & Kindness

Day 124: Love, Friendship & Kindness

“The only way to have a friend is to be one.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life has a way of reminding us what is most important. Sometimes it reminds us in the worst possible way. We all know that our family and friends are the most important part of life. They quite simply make life worth living and are the very source of joy and laughter in this sometimes harsh life. I feel blessed that I have created a life that is full of love, friendship, and kindness, even if I could not see it and feel it before, I suspect it has always been there. The difference now, through this journey to find, create, and live in kindness, is that I’m choosing to see it everyday and in everyone, including myself, my loved ones, and even strangers.

Today, hug your friends and family a little longer than usual, call a friend that you haven’t spoken to in a while, and tell all the special people in your life how much they mean to you!

Say Yes to Kindness

Day 116: Say Yes to Kindness

“You are the power in your world! You get to have whatever you choose to think!” – Louise Hay

Say yes to kindness. In fact, say yes to whatever it is you desire. Be open to receive the things that you want in life by practicing positive affirmations, mediation, saying yes, making a vision board, writing in a journal or whatever method works for you.

The first step is being open to receive the many gifts that are available to all of us. The world is full of abundance and opportunities, and if we do not limit ourselves, we can do anything. After choosing to be open, to say yes to life and our desires, next we can practice through the chosen method or methods and begin to think the thoughts that will create the beliefs that will then manifest into gifts and treasures. We can try many different approaches until we get what we want. Just remember to choose those thoughts wisely, with care, and precision, because what we think becomes our reality.

From Kindness to Happiness

Day 114: From Kindness to Happiness

“Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are. It solely relies on what you think.” – Buddha

“People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.” – Abraham Lincoln

“Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.” – Ralph Marston

This post is dedicated to a dear friend who actually chuckled when I asked him if he was happy. I asked him why he found the question funny. I don’t think I ever got a straight answer from him. I suspect that he is not happy and does not know how to be happy. I certainly can relate and understand, because I used to believe that happiness was unachievable and a made up concept that only happened in romantic comedies and fairy tales.

So…Is happiness possible? I believe it is. As the above quotes mention, it really comes down to choice.

At any given moment, we have a choice. We can choose happiness in the moment. We can choose to be happy, just as we can choose to be miserable. Happiness is possible if that’s what we want. I know some of you might be thinking, of course I want to be happy, but I never seem to be. Or maybe I have moments, but just moments and not a state of happiness. My answer to that is this: life is really just a string of moments. If we choose to be happy in the moment, eventually those moments will string together and we will have had a lifetime of happiness. At least that is what I’m choosing to believe.

Of course, many of us may not have been taught how to choose happiness, how to be happy or even know where to start. Perhaps we grew up in a family that was full of angst, fear, anger, and a general feeling of unhappiness. If that was your childhood, that is unfortunate, but we can learn now. We can do anything we put our minds and energy to. It is a pure waste of time and life to limit ourselves. Find books, a mentor, a therapist, or seek out a person who seems to have figured out how to have happiness and learn from them. We get one life. We each hold the power within to create our own happiness. By looking within and finding the things that make each of us uniquely happy, is a start.

My path to happiness began with the choice to seek out kindness, to pray for it, ask for it, find it, create it, and eventually live it. At first it was difficult because I was battling 30+ years of thoughts and beliefs that had molded me into a person that looked for and saw the things that were going wrong. I now know that it is impossible to find happiness when full of worry, fear, and living for others. I am still a work in progress, however, each day that I choose to be kind and loving towards myself, it becomes easier to be kind to others and to every person I encounter. Kindness is becoming a way of life and in turn has created a path to happiness for me.

Choose Happiness Because You Can!

Give Kindness, Get Kindness

Day 108: Give Kindness, Get Kindness

“What I know for sure is that what you give comes back to you.” – Oprah Winfrey

You want kindness, give kindness.

You want love, give love.

You want attention, give attention.

You want patience, be patient.

You want understanding, give understanding.

You want truth, be truthful.

You want forgiveness, forgive yourself and others.

You want compassion, give compassion.

You want abundance, give abundantly.

You want to be happy, choose to be happy.

You want joy, live joyously.

Give out whatever you desire and be confident that it will return. Believe that you deserve kindness, love, attention, gentleness, abundance, compassion, and joy. What you believe, think and give will be created.

Smile Kindly

Day 105: Smile Kindly

“A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.” – William Ward

On day 105 of 365 days of kindness, practicing smiling at everyone you encounter, including yourself. Try making a game out of it. See how many people return your smile and how many ignore you. Either way, practice smiling all day and see if it affects how your day goes. Notice if you feel happier at the end of the day. Spread joy, spread kindness and spread love all with a smile.

With Kindness,

Jennifer Palazzo
