Day 110: Receiving Kindness
“If you wish for light, be ready to receive light.” -Rumi
It has not always been very easy for me to receive compliments, gifts, acts of kindness, kind gestures and even love. Somewhere in my upbringing I learned that rather than accept kind words, kind actions and gifts, I should thank the giver and politely decline. This notion now seems insane. Not only was I denying and refusing to accept love and kindness, I was systematically closing off the channels of receiving. Receiving good, receiving kindness, receiving love and attention. People want to give, people want to connect, people want to be kind and loving.
With my daily practice of kindness, I am open to receive kindness, love, gifts, compliments and whatever the world wants to give. Through giving and practicing kindness, I also get to receive it, and it feels amazing.
Please remember that when we give, we also receive, and when we receive, we give. We give the giver pleasure by being receptive. It works both ways, and if we are open, it will continue to flow and create an ocean of love and kindness.
