Kindness: Prayer & Meditation

Day 85: Kindness: Prayer & Meditation

“Communicate with God in the morning and at night. Praying is talking. Meditating is listening. Bless each day by taking time to wrap it in a ribbon of meditation and prayer.” – Melody Beattie

I came across the above quote and loved the part about praying is talking to God and meditation is listening to God. I never thought of it that way before. It makes perfect sense. I also like to think of the listening part as being open to receive, and the prayer part as an open conversation with our personal understanding of a higher power. Either way, whether we speak with or listen to our higher power, I believe kindness will be found in both places.

 Kindness to Self:

Setting up a regular time for meditation and prayer is a wonderful way to finding our true selves and living from our center, our truth. It is a way to check in before we go out into the world. It is a time to set intentions for the day and be open to receive messages.

Kindness to Others:

In meditation and prayer alike, we can send our love, thoughts and energy to others. Many of us have experienced the power of prayer. At the very least, it cannot hurt.

Kindness to Strangers:

In meditation there is a type of meditation called metta or loving kindness meditation. Essentially it is a mediation that begins with self love and well being for ourselves and then extends to our family, others, strangers and eventually to all beings. Here’s a link with a nice description on the practice: Metta Institute

Kindness to Our Planet:

We can certainly include the health and well being of our planet in our prayers and meditation practice. We can include it in our metta mediation as well.
