Day 58: Bonding Creates Kindness

The act of bonding is creating, sharing and nurturing a connection full of love and respect for another. Bonding, it is what we automatically do with our children from the time of birth. It is what we do with our close friendships and loved ones. It is what we do if we are part of a team, group or work environment that encourages bonding. It is what happens when you go through an intense situation with others. It is what we need to do with ourselves.

Sometimes bonding comes naturally and no effort is required, however, other times, great effort is necessary. Relationships change, people change, our children grow and go through different developmental stages and these changes can put distance between people. Bonding can also be the act of reaching out and creating a bond for no particular reason other than: why not!

Kindness to Self:

I think of bonding with myself as both essential and extremely important. Bonding with ourselves is something that is deeply personal and unique. It is quality time spent with yourself, doing the the things that are nurturing and rejuvenating.

Kindness to Others:

Bonding with our friends, co-workers, family and children is what life is all about. These moments are the essence and source of joy in life. I think the only challenge is being completely present in the moment. Turning of the cell phone and metaphorically turning off other distractions and truly engaging in that moment.

Kindness to Strangers:

Bonding with strangers is as as simple as extending your hand out and introducing yourself. Putting yourself out there and being open can lead to all sorts of opportunities to bond, connect and forge new friendships and relationships.

Kindness to Our Planet:

Bonding with the planet can be understood as creating a special relationship with a place in nature that you somehow connect with. Maybe the ocean provides a special feeling or a walk in a forest? Where ever the place may be, do a little research and see if you can create a deeper connection to the natural places you love through conservation or protection.
